UNICEF Rights Respecting Gold School
We were so proud to become a UNICEF Rights Respecting Gold School in the summer term of 2019. The work we did and continue to do across school to develop awareness and understanding of the importance of the Rights of the Child influence everything we do and is embedded in our school ethos and vision. Learning the key vocabulary, particularly the terms universal, unconditional, indivisible, inalienable and inherent means our children and staff learn how to think and talk about rights confidently.
In the summer term of 2019 we held a Rights Respecting Day. Children worked in cross-phase groups with their older and younger buddies to plan presentations, activities and leaflets which they used to help our families and community visitors learn about the articles in the Convention for the Rights of the Child
We also held a fundraising event for UNICEF. We came to school in our favourite sports clothes and all worked together to complete a challenging obstacle course. We are trying to raise money to pay for a water pump to supply clean water to a a school village, our aim was to raise half of the money as our Government will then provide the remaining costs.
UNICEF is promoting an awareness of children's right to play, so by providing a water pump in the village, children will no longer have to travel long distances to collect water, therefore giving them more time to play.
