Promoting British Values at Armathwaite School
Armathwaite School is committed to promoting British values: democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for different faiths and beliefs. These principles are embedded in our school ethos, curriculum, and daily practices.
Democracy & Student Voice
All students are active in school decision-making through our good news assemblies, and student-led evaluations. This ensures inclusivity, ownership, and engagement in school development, including projects like outdoor learning, PE improvements, and Global goals.
Respect, Tolerance & Equality
Our curriculum—through RE, Philosophy for Children, and student-led discussions—fosters respect, understanding, and balanced debate. We actively challenge discrimination and promote equality through our Single Equality Scheme, where students audit and improve school inclusivity.
Behaviour & Community Engagement
Our behaviour policy focuses on responsibility, empathy, and positive reinforcement. A buddy system pairs older students with younger peers, encouraging mentoring and support. We also engage with the local community through events, partnerships with businesses, and initiatives like Fair Trade and Global Learning.
Curriculum & Independent Learning
Students develop collaboration, respect, and awareness of rights through child-initiated learning, student-led projects, and curriculum integration. Our approach encourages independence, resilience, and a love for learning.
We continuously strive to improve learning opportunities, ensuring our students grow into responsible, informed, and respectful individuals.
