Lacrosse Autumn 2016
Mike, our lacrosse coach has been in school again this term providing lacrosse coaching for Year 2, 3, 4 and Year 5 and 6. This is the fourth year Mike has coached our children and the skills the children are developing and demonstrating is clearly evident. Lacrosse sessions are very active, inclusive, challenging and fun! Mike encourages everyone to stretch and challenge themselves. We fund the coaching sessions using our PE and School Sport Fund.
During our sessions
- We create our own fun warm up exercises,
- Practise dodging and marking skills and strategies.
- We use and apply these skills using our lacrosse sticks with a partner and in teams.
- We learn how to work together as a team, collaborating and communicating to move the ball up and down the lacrosse pitch
Dressing in the goalie kit to defend the goal was a fun challenge. Mike coached everyone and supported them to develop and improve their skills. We really enjoy the challenge of Lacrosse training sessions.
"Having a coach is really good because they have expertise to teach things about their sport that the teachers may not know.

New learning opportunities like lacrosse are great because it is outside and it’s fun.

Everyone who wanted to play on the Year 5 and 6 team travelled toPenrith for the festival. We won our group, qualifying for the semi– final, which we won. This took us through to the final. Everyone supported each other and played well, demonstrating good sportsmanship and respect for the teams we were playing against."
The competition was fun and friendly and we were thrilled to come in second place. Congratulations to Langwathby who won the festival. Our success means for the second year running we have got through to the North of England Lacrosse Championships next May. Well-done team Armathwaite.
