Nursery and Reception children have been learning about the famous artist Jackson Pollock, known for his splashy, drippy, wonderfully messy style of painting. Pollock often worked with huge canvases on the floor, dripping and flicking paint as he moved quickly around them. This energetic style is called action painting, because the artist’s movement becomes part of the artwork.

Inspired by his techniques, our youngest pupils had a fantastic time creating their own action paintings. Using syringes and hanging lanterns, they dripped colourful paint onto large sheets of paper, watching the long, wobbly lines appear just like Pollock’s.

The finished lanterns are now proudly hanging in our library area—and they really do brighten up the space! The children are very proud of their creations, and we think Pollock would be too.✨
