Our whole school enjoyed a fantastic day out at Garrigill on Alston Moor, where the children had the opportunity to explore the beautiful moorland environment and learn more about life and work in the countryside.
Throughout the day, the children took part in a range of exciting and informative activities. They discovered fascinating facts during the Honey Bee Display and learned about moorland food chains with the North Pennines Moorland Group.
The children also found out about wildfire prevention and why it is so important to protect our beautiful moorland habitats. They learnt more about farming in the uplands and the important role farmers play in caring for the countryside.
One of the highlights of the day was learning about working dogs and seeing how they help farmers with their daily work. The children also enjoyed a fly-fishing display, giving them the chance to see this traditional countryside skill in action.
It was a wonderful opportunity for the whole school to learn outside the classroom, experience the countryside first-hand and develop a greater understanding of the people, animals and wildlife that make the moorland such a special place.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day so enjoyable and memorable. We certainly packed a lot of learning into one fantastic day!
